What’s Possible When Yoga becomes a Conversation?
Stop collecting yoga concepts. Start living the practice.
The philosophy that informs your yoga practice and can guide your life isn't meant to live in your head. It's meant to be applied and tested against the specific shape of your days, your relationships, your system and your history. Listening to a talk or following a video can give you information. But information that isn’t tested and applied is concept alone. It isn't transformation.
When you learn from a yoga teacher who comes to know you, engages with your questions and helps bring the teachings of yoga to you as they apply to your life is a fundamentally different experience than pressing play on a video and following along. Your teacher can support structural flexibility and strength through skilled application of breath and āsana. She can see how you use your breath and provide practices that can help the breath become an incredible source of energy and balance in your life. Your teacher can hear the mental loops and emotional snags that keep showing up for you and show you ways to practice for yourself, by yourself so that your mind can become steady, stable and clear. Yoga teachings come through the teacher and get applied to the student. The teacher-student relationship, when appropriate and held with care, can be the container that supports great conversation and transformation.
